About Theatre on the Green

Founded in 2006, Theatre on the Green is dedicated to enriching young people's lives through the performing arts and in service to the community.

The student training is based on the Stanislavski system and includes vocal, movement, and emotional training, theatre games and exercises, improvisation, scene study, and building a character.

In addition to learning the craft of acting, students share their time and talents to fund raise for charities including women and homeless shelters, and all productions benefit a veteran/military organization such as Paralyzed Veterans of America. The young actors' production of the family comedy, "The Frankensteins are Back in Town" to be held September 28-30, benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.

Further, the students perform a comedic one act semi-annually at local nursing homes and hospitals. The students have also written and performed original one-act comedies and have adopted and clean a local highway.

Each spring and fall, classic and comedic productions are held at the instructor's home, either under a tent or in a Quonset hut in the Woodstock countryside and, "On the Green".

The young actors have the opportunity to participate in many capacities such as Assistant Director, stage crew, set designing, and choreography. Past productions have included "The Secret Garden", "Anne of Green Gables", "Phantom of the Op'ry", and a compelling young actors' adaptation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth".

Cast members of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", Town Square Players, Woodstock, IL Opera House. Lisa Waichunas played the part of Nurse Ratched. This production was the first Woodstock Opera House production to ever tour professionally.
